Back when Hopper lived in St. Joseph
She used to walk to and from school
And only during her last days there
Did she notice the forest, green and cool
And how the old pines when the wind blows
Would wave their furry limbs at her
How when the sun struck the hedgerows
The leaves would turn silver
And how much Hopper would miss Aaya
Holding out her violin case, the color of fresh loam,
And asking, "Would you like to hold the Allengator
the rest of the way
home?"
